
Let Teachers SHINE winners 2023 handed a share of 拢150,000 for projects supporting disadvantaged pupils
is an annual competition from the education charity which supports teachers developing innovative practices for the classroom. Winners receive funding of up to 拢25,000 to pilot projects helping disadvantaged pupils in the North succeed in school. The winning projects this year are:
- Andy Hopkins 鈥 Drill and Literacy
- This initiative combines tutoring, counselling and music to overcome literacy barriers among low-income students
- Penelope Melville 鈥 Mind Wandering Cards
- The concept uses colour-coded cards to boost students鈥 listening, understanding and debating skills
- Jonny Foster 鈥 Prodigy
- The website, Prodigy, aims to bridge the gap between maths and science grades while also addressing the overall achievement gap for disadvantaged students
- Hal Eccles 鈥 Revision Podcast
- An educational podcast hosted and produced by students
- Sam Stenton & Aaron Lewis 鈥 A-level Up
- An app aimed at aiding A-Level maths students in exam preparation
- Jon Blackbourn 鈥 Revise Chemistry with Mr B
- A Youtube channel which supports disadvantaged students with their science GCSE
- Sean Harris 鈥 Crafting a Curriculum with Poverty in Mind
- Developing a curriculum toolkit that addresses the challenges faced by students from low-income backgrounds and incorporates student voice.
- Sam Slingsby 鈥 Numeracy Bridger
- This is an intervention programme focusing on fundamental numeracy skills and real-life concepts such as budgeting, taxes and mortgages.
